Plastiscines are igniting the French Garage revival scene with loads of fiery pop nuggets. Les girls named themselves after the lyric, “plasticine porters with looking glass ties,” from The Beatles song, ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’, on 1967 album Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. If Kate Jackson of The Long Blondes actually played an instrument, found three other brilliant girls that rocked different instruments and exuded attitude like Deborah Harry, you might be closing in on the Plastiscines. About Love is their second album and a huge leap towards international super-stardom.
‘Barcelona’ beats The Long Blondes at their own retro indie pop game with even more rollicking boogie down beats.
‘Runnaway’ is cool as ice, lovely flowing vocals over a hastened Post Punk strut. The sparse guitar swats are covered in vibrato and reverb like every song on the new Arctic Monkey’s album Hum Bug, a heavenly concoction.
‘You’re No Good’ just plain kicks ass! Booming bass lines with punk guitar stabs and screaming psychedelic sirens that all resolve into this awesome buzzin’ groove. Fantastic!
Cool like: The Long Blondes, The Strokes, Blondie, The White Stripes, The Like, The Von Bondies, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Arctic Monkeys, Controller Controller, Moving Units, Metric, The Kinks, The Libertines, The Subways
