(2009) EP – Summertime (Moshi Moshi)

Surf Rock / Indie Pop / Post Punk / Doo Wop

Jonathan Pierce (Vocals)

Jacob Graham (Guitar)

(The Drums perform ‘Let’s Go Surfing’)

Jonathan and Jacob have been best friends ever since they met at summer camp, they played music together in Goat Explosion, then made music apart, in bands Elkland and Horse Shoes.  Finally, they got bored of synthesizers and decided to start playing guitars and form a new band together.  The Drums make classic summery pop not far off from The Beach Boys of the early sixties.

Both ‘Saddest Summer’ and ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ have more giddy adolescent charm than Two Door Cinema Club asking The Little Ones to the prom.  Since Jacob just learned to play guitar he uses very simple single note lines, but his knack for sugary melodies make them ridiculously infectious.

‘Submarine’ sounds a bit like Crocodiles, if they didn’t want to kill you but wanted to take you to the fair for some cotton candy and a spin on the Ferris Wheel.

‘Down By The Water’ is slice of classic Doo Wop with great reverb drenched vocals, all set to a slow torchlight march.  It’s so breathtaking and amazing, I imagine Glasvegas are watching this bunch with a furrowed brow.

Expect huge things from The Drums.
