Them Crooked Vultures (Los Angeles, California) Bootleg - Live at the Lowlands Festival 08.22.09 (Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Rock)

Josh Homme (Lead Vocals, Guitar)

John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboards, Keytar, Vocals)

Dave Grohl (Drums, Vocals)

Alain Johannes (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Vocals) **Live Only**

Bow down to the greatest super-group on the planet:

First, let’s start with the players involved.  Josh Homme is probably the best, if not one of the best, rock guitarist/vocalist alive.  His abrasive guitar tendencies and his flawless vocal tone create a magic dichotomy that is the Josh Homme sound.  It has a major authority in his main band Queens of the Stone Age and a very dominant influence on Them Crooked Vultures.  Dave Grohl played drums on Queens of the Stone Age’s most critically acclaimed album, Songs for the Deaf, but he is most well known for being the drummer for Nirvana and most recently the lead frontman/guitarist of the Foo Fighters.  I consider him to be one of the greatest and most inspiring drummers of all time.  Now to complete the perfect musician trifecta we have none other than John Paul Jones the bassist/keyboardist of the little known band LED ZEPPELIN!!!  Need I say more?

This recording is of their fourth gig ever, at the Lowlands festival in the Netherlands 8.22.09.  It’s obviously a bootleg, the sound quality isn’t amazing, but it’s good enough.  They play through 10 original songs and pretty much lay waste to Lowlands.  “Scumbag Blues” is a low down and dirty blues track very reminiscent of the Zep.  On “Caligulove”  John Paul Jones lights up the keys with his mastery while Josh rocks a simple but filthy riff.  Dave Grohl shreds the drums, with the most slamming drumbeat of the lot, on “Gunman”.    He gets the whole audience in a frenzy as they feverishly clap along.  The atmosphere sounds like its full of die hard Vulture fans, except no one here has heard any of these songs before.  You can get a sense that this is the beginning of something monumental.

Listen for yourself and tell us what you think.

Try It/

Cool like: Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Foo Fighters
